Ingredients

  • 3.25 cups all purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp instant yeast or active dry yeast

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Pizza Stone
  • Oven-Proof Bowl
  • Tea Towel
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Flour-dusted Surface

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, salt, and yeast. Mix to combine well.
  2. Pour in the warm water and mix until a soft, sticky dough has formed.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and a tea towel. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Sprinkle flour on the kitchen counter and dump the dough onto it. Flour your hands and fold the dough onto itself to form a round ball.
  5. Make a few cuts on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  6. Place the dough on a floured pizza peel, cardboard, or parchment paper and allow it to rest while the oven preheats.
  7. Preheat your oven to 450°F with a pizza stone inside for about 45 minutes. Fill an oven-proof bowl with water and place it on the bottom rack.
  8. Once the oven is hot, sprinkle the pizza stone with semolina flour or cornmeal and carefully slide the bread on top. Bake for about 30 to 45 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Transfer the bread to a cooling rack and let it cool completely before slicing.
