Ingredients
  

Okra
  • 1 pound fresh okra sliced into 1/2 inch pieces
Breading
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup buttermilk
Oil
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying

Method
 

Prepare the Okra
  1. Wash and slice the fresh okra into 1/2 inch pieces.
Make the Breading
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  2. Dip the sliced okra into buttermilk, then coat in the cornmeal mixture.
Fry the Okra
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry the breaded okra in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serve
  1. Serve hot as a side dish or snack.
