Ingredients

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons light butter, melted
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
Apples
  • 1 ½ cups peeled and chopped apple

Equipment

  • Loaf pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • whisk

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mist a 9” x 5” loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the egg, applesauce, sugar, and vanilla extract and stir together until well combined. Add the melted butter and stir together.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and cloves and whisk until combined. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir together until just combined into a batter. Stir the chopped apples into the batter until combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Transfer the bread in the loaf pan to a wire cooling rack and cool in the pan for 10 minutes. After cooling, invert the pan to release the bread onto the rack and allow it to rest until cool. Once cool, slice the loaf into 12 (3/4” thick) slices.
