Ingredients
  

Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix-ins
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts optional, e.g., walnuts or pecans

Method
 

Prepare the Batter
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
Bake the Bars
  1. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow to cool in the pan before cutting into bars.
