Baked Ziti for a Crowd

Ingredients
  

Pasta
  • 1 pound Ziti pasta or penne
Sauce
  • 2 cups Marinara sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup Ricotta cheese whole milk recommended
Cheese
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese divided
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
Meat
  • 1 pound Ground beef or Italian sausage
Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper

Method
 

Prepare the Pasta
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Cook the Meat
  1. In a large pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add marinara sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir to combine and simmer for 5 minutes.
Combine Ingredients
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
  2. Add the meat sauce to the pasta mixture and stir until well combined.
Bake
  1. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  2. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serve
  1. Let the baked ziti cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

This dish can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking. Just add an extra 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
